The Airing of grievances

The Godather was keeping his new "bad" image before the game on Saturday by yelling about the poor punctuality of the starting goalie, Pinkie. Pinkie got to the rink and was able to take a few shots in warm-ups. The Flyers, playing a very inspired game, were too much for CG on Saturday night jumping out to a 3 goal lead. The stick work increased and tempers flared. But CG could not come back and lost the game, ending their 6 game undefeated streak. The usual highjinks that surround the Festivus celebration were no where to be found, partly because Captain Skids was not in attendance. Company holiday parties damped the evenings festivities at the Beer Bistro, but a good time was had by all who went there after the game.

A few players headed to a house party later that night that turned out to be the Pinkie Show. From Pinkie's ride in the trunk to the party, everyone new the night was going to be interesting. Using props, dumping beers on people and getting into a slap match were just some of the bits Pinkie performed. Pinkie had trouble finding some pucks during the game but he had an uncanny ability for find people used chewing gum on the ground. CG has a layoff for the holidays returning to the ice December 29th for a late night Friday game.

The Streak continues

CG took the ice on a cold Wednesday night against the FOP Stars. The cops were short handed with 6 skaters but with the poor ice conditions the teams were fairly evenly matched. The referees were definately partial to Chicago's finest allowing them to take liberties that CG was not. The team traded goals through out the game. The FOP stars had the lead for most of the game until the end of the second period when Goose took the lead. Silent took a penalty with 30 seconds left in the game which allowed the cops to tie the game and send it to a shoot out where Cheese made the saves he needed to give CG the win to keep the winning streak going. IB Matt and Mickey fired shots past the goalie in the shoot-out along with the Godfather scoring a goal that was disallowed by the referee. The IB Bald line was firing on all cylinders scoring 4 of the 5 goals for CG. The Godfather got the jacket after finishing 3 goalssetup by beautiful passes from IB Matt and Reuben for the hat trick. The Goose take the ice next Saturday against the Flyers for the always entertaining Festivus game on December 17th.

Alot to be thankful for

CG showed up to Johnny's for the late-late game on Monday night against Raw Thrills. Both teams had surprisingly full benches. In the spirit of the holidays CG decided that they would don different jerseys instead of the usual pullover argument that happens every time the two teams play. This should be the last time that pullover argument will be had because the new Beer Bistro Jerseys are coming in 2 weeks. The team came out with disciplined line changes, good communication and great passing in spite of the horrible ice conditions. It has been the best overall game the team has played in quite some time. IB Matt put aside contract stipulations that said he was not going to play D this season and played a solid game on the blue line. The scoring started with a tick-tack passing play that started at the CG goal line when Pinkie fired a pass to the other blue line where Rueben passed it to the Godfather who passed it over to Silent for the tip in goal. CG didn’t look back after that goal and skated to a 5-2 win moving them into 4th place before the holiday break. Silent was awarded the Jacket after posting a Hat trick and an assist. Rueben and the Godfather had three assists as well. There was swagger to the CG team that hasn't been seen since smoke filled locker rooms and multiple fights were common. With about 4 minutes left the CG defense did a full sale change on the penalty kill, while IB Robbie floated a pass through the center of the defensive zone to a defensemen who was coming off the bench. CG showed such confidence that it didn't look like a crazy play. IB Robbie will discuss this further on his webpage since he and the other IB's were not available for an interview at the Stanley Club after that game.

We're going streaking!

CG won last Saturday in a game against a shorthanded Stag team. The Goose was backstopped by Pinkie who was the first winner of the new jacket and has won the jacket more than any other player. All the lines played well and the 7-4 win should have been much higher. There were many shots that went wide past empty nets. The Indiana Boys all put forth and impressive effort quickly rushing to another game once CG had the Stags on the ropes in the third period. It is that team oriented mentality that is going to help carry the Goose into the play-offs. Keeping in line with the streaks, Captain Skids made another appearance. His streaky underwear were the main feature in this production. After using the tighty-whiteys in the game Capitan skid proceeded to put them on his face streak first. Some team members were laughing, some were gagging and most were showering. Every appearance Capitan Skids makes inks its way into CG History .

A Win is a Win

The locker room was packed before CG's tout with the hated Boozehounds. CG was missing Cheese and not because they wanted him around but because they needed him to show up so that the team would not be fined for forfieting the game. Cheese showed up in time and was dressed so that Goose was not penalized . It turns out the Boozehounds goalie was nowhere to be found and they had to forfiet extending CG's undefeated streak to 3. The two teams played a freindly scrimmage that threatened to turn into an all out brawl at any moment. CG players got to take shots at Cheese during the scrimmage, IB Matt could not find his way past Cheese's glove( everyone else could). There was a new jacket in the locker room that was not awarded due to the fact that there was no official game. The old jacket was retired to the Godfather's House since he has been holding on to it for the past year and failed to mention it to anyone. There was talk of another team outing to be planned in the near future, stay tuned for details. (Hint: start saving up singles).

Afterward the team and IB Robbie and IB Travis went to the Beer Bistro for beers and some food during the team meeting. The team sat and enjoyed a pizza, some sliders, a couple beers and a few laughs while the other two guys from Indiana ate on there own. There was an unspoken message sent by the IB Crew. 33% of the IB Crew didn't even show up to the bar afterwards for the team meeting. Suspensions may be pending and fines will be issued accordingly.

By the Skin of thier teeth

Canadian Goose is 1-0-1 in thier last two games. Both games CG held on not to lose to opponents with less than 8 skaters. CG takes the ice this saturday against thier dreaded rivals the Boozehounds.

Blind Item

CG took the ice on Thursday night against the Scorpions. The Goose never got started and never found there rhythm in the game losing 9-4. Passes were not connecting unless it was Cheese clearing the puck to the Scorpions. Here are the excuses: The refs didn't give us any power plays, The ice was to fast, The pucks were too warm, The lines were not used to playing with each other, The game was too late and It was too cold outside. The team was really missing the Godfather who is much better at finding excuses on why the team loses.

Here are the Blind Items:

  • Which player is looking for a Job?
  • Which player may have an STD?
  • Is Helmut a real person?
For the answers to these questions and for a chance to hang out with the team at a Blackhawks game come to Johnny's on Saturday October 21st at 4:40.

Other items in the CG news:
The football pool has been canceled due to lack of interest, maybe next year it will generate more interest.
After arbitration CG has reached an agreement on Oli's contract. He is slated to play on Saturday.
Shooter was put back on email list after an over sight.

It Only Took 4 Games

CG had a game against Old & In the Way on Sunday night. The line-up was lighter than usual with 2 full lines and three defense. Canadian Goose prevailed with Pinkie backstopping them to their first victory of the season. IB Robbie retained possession of the jacket with a 3 point night netting 2 goals and adding an assist. The team tried to match the Bear's Sunday night performance with a dominating game of their own. The power play was working and Mickey was tenacious on the penalty kill. Mickey was clearing pucks out of the zone with such vigor that he fired 2 pucks into his own bench. One of the clearing attempts came in with such heat it cracked IB Travis's helmet. Everyone was holding their breathe until IB Travis lifted his head to exhale in laughter. CG has a short layoff till the 12th when they will try to start a winning streak.

Annoying Loss

Canadian Goose headed to the rink on Saturday looking for thier first victory of the season. Their opponent, the Flyers, included the turncoat player of last season Kaspar and he was in net. But like ants at a picnic the Flyers annoyed CG into taking penalties . The amount of cheapshots and slashing that the Flyers did was reminiscent of the Charleston Chiefs vs. Saginaw Gears game immortalized in the movie Slapshot. Kaspar and Cheese tried matching each other in saves, but Cheese could not pitch the shut out like Kaspar did as Goose took its third loss of the new season. The team was visibly stunned after the loss not knowing what could have been done different in the game. There is another chance for CG to get thier first win on Sunday against Old and in the Way who is the other winless team in the league.

Slow Start

Canadian Goose took the ice against the FOP Stars knowing that it would be a hard fought game. It seems the FOP stars come out of the gate every winter season on fire. Saturday was no different. Even though CG ended the first period up 2 to 1. The pucks stopped going in the net in the second and third period and they ended up losing the game 8-4. Surprisingly there were no penalties the entire game, even with Joe the diver on the ice. IB Matt made the comment about Joe after the Game, "He's a good guy to have on your team, but a really pain to play against". Joe made the loss stink even more when net put a puck past Cheese with 30 seconds left in the game. Mitchell had a good game posting three goals. The saving grace for the CG team is that there are a lot of new faces and once everyone gets used to playing with each other the team should go on a winning streak. The next game for Canadian Goose is next Saturday at 10:00pm.

Promising Start

Canadian Goose (Beer Bistro B) took the ice against Raw Thrills Tuesday night after a brief Off-Season. Everyone came back healthy with smiles on thier faces. There were also a few new faces to the locker room along with some familiar faces returning. Pinkie was shaking off a cold but still got the start and made the save on the first shot he faced which was a huge step. Everyone was still getting there legs back as well as filling out thier IPI forms through the first period. CG came back in the second period to tie the game at 3. Then with 5 minutes left Raw Thrills put a slapshot off of the post to take the lead scoring one more and netting an empty net to win 6-3. Next game will bring about more new faces and hopefully a win as well as a familiar face in a different jersey, Joe.

We should have beat those guys!

A Debacle(Season) in Review

The anthem of the season was "We should have beat those guys!". After being plagued by attendance issues all season. Many games lacked the presence of the Godfather who was an emotional leader for the team. If one or two more players would have shown up to games, the season could have had a completely different look. Many games CG lost by one goal because their legs gave way. The good news was all the teams make the playoffs but it is hard to get going in the playoffs when so few players are eligible and even fewer were available to show up. The team has saved other teams hundreds of dollars in forfeit money, by CG players playing in games directly after CG games. As Humanitarians, CG stood above all. Also the team made a reluctant return to the Stanley Club. Negotiations are under with new and old players to put a winning team on the ice in the winter. Pinkie and Cheese will be alternating games in net. The Godfather will be sharing his wisdom. Silent may have to be shipped back to Louisiana so the team can win.

6 Rounds and Out

Canadian Goose came to the rink on Sunday night missing many players who were not eligible for the playoffs and missing a few guys who were eligible. The rink was running late which helped Oli make it to the game on time after getting stuck in the hellacious Dan Rayn Traffic that has plagued the city in recent months. With only six players for the game CG set in for the battle. The first period was frightening when Cheese let in 2 goals and it looked like there would be a running clock in the third period. But CG tightened their belts and were not going to go out with out a fight. CG scored the best goal of the season when Mickey made a pass from his back to IB Robbie who broke in and make a sweet deke and backhanded the puck into the net. Picking up the play CG out shot Lawrence Funeral going into the third period. Silent scored off of an IB Robbie rebound to tie the game. Cheese picked up his game in the last two periods and the Goose was willing to take the game into a shootout. The shoot out went 6 rounds. Scoring was at a premium with only 1 goal being scored by each team through 5 rounds. Then Lawrence Funeral put the final nail in the coffin that was the Canadian Goose Summer Season. The season review will be posted shortly.

Building a Head of Steam

Canadian Goose's Season Finale was against the first place Scorpions. The locker room before the game was "peppy" according to IB Robbie. The Scorpions came out with the first goal on the first shot Cheese faced. Then CG came back and scored two goals and never relinquished the lead from that point. After the first period, Goose was up 3-2. The team puckered up in the second period that has been devastating for the team. The chippy play also picked up in the second with sticks and hips being thrown all over the ice. The I-57 line from the 2005 season was reunited and caused a flurry of offensive opportunities. IB Robbie showed how "peppy" he was by netting 2 goals and 2 assists for a 4 point night an walking away with the Jacket. Mickey had a hat trick. CG tried to give the game to the Scorpions with 2 minutes left. With two guys in the penalty box and all the defensemen on the bench, Peppy, Mickey and Silent were on the ice for the last minute. The three forwards were leaning on Cheese to make some saves but Mickey and Peppy decided to make their own saves dropping down to block shots. CG weathered the storm and came away with the win beating the Scorpions 6-5. CG plans on riding the win into the playoff where they face Lawrence Funeral on Sunday at 5:20.

Last Place to Lose

The Godfather was in locker room before Canadian Goose's game on Monday night against the last place Lawrence Funeral. No pure defensemen were there. IB Matt, who has played tremendously all season at defense even though he is a forward, tried to anchor the blueliners. Lawrence Funeral came into the game skating quickly while CG could not find their legs all game. The second period killed the Goose as usuall and CG lost the game 7-2. CG missed some open nets and hit a few posts but never amounted enough of an attack to come close even with the Godfather in the line-up.

CG takes the ice against the Scorpions this Sunday at 8:00 for the final game in the regular season. CG is slated for a playoff game on Sunday, August 13 at 5:20 against Lawrence Funeral.

Everyone Makes the Playoffs

Canadian Goose came to the rink full of hope to continue the winning streak. In a rare occasion this season IB Matt was allowed to play offense. Wasting no time IB Matt smoked a wrist shoot under the crossbar in the first 2 minutes of the game. The Flyers answered with 6 goals passed Cheese. CG came back with 2 goals to stop the running clock in the third period and looked poised to make the come back as they did last game. IB Robbie had some mis-fortune in the second period. He received a blistering pass from IB Matt which broke his skate blade. The two argued on whether the pass was to far behind IB Robbie or IB Robbie was skating too fast, no conclusion was reached. CG feel apart in the third coasting while the Flyer scored 4 more goals. Chewie stated "We are just pacing ourselves for the playoffs". Goose has not faired well during weekend game. This has been a problem as most of the games this season were on the weekend. Two more game to go. One against the last place team and the final game against the first place team.

It Ends at Four

Canadian Goose came to the rink on a muggy Thursday night in Chicago. It was the last game of the night and no one expected it to be a battle. In the Goose Locker room there were a few groggy players, a player who was making his return after a month long lay off and a shaky goalie trying to find his game. The Beached Whalers did not expect the fight that was put forth by Canadian Goose. Exchanging goals all game the CG fell behind 7 times. CG had some fight left in them looking to end the 4 game losing streak that has left this reporter speechless in recent weeks. Building off of the solid foundation of punishing defense provided by Tommy and Chewie, who played almost 40 minutes a piece Goose showed its determination and grit. Mitchell was firing on all cylinders dancing around checks vowing to end the losing streak. Pinkie definitely came into his zone, sliding side to side across the net, eating up rebounds and challenging shooters. There were a plethora of fluke goals scored last night, Silent was the benefactor of 2 goals the BW goalie but into his own net and Pinkie had some bad bounces that were impossible to over come. While the defense continued to punish the Grey Squirrel, the offense chipped away 7 times to tie the game with 5 minutes left. Then Rueben got the puck at the top of the circle and went in unchallenged on the goalie. His first shot was stymied, but he followed his shot and buried the rebound into the back of the net for the game winning goal. Silent later added an empty net goal to seal the victory with 1 minute remaining for a 4 goal, five point night giving him the most goals in the league and moving him to 4th on the scoring leaders list. But the goal the won the game also won the jacket for Rueben who made an impressive comeback after an extended absence from the team. The team looks to use this victory to build a head of steam going into the play-offs. They will be taking the ice on 2 days rest to battle the fifth place Flyers and say hi to an old friend Kaspar. Cheese will make his return in net on Sunday at 5:20.

2 Bad Minutes

Canadian Goose took the ice saturday with 7 skaters and were headed for a dogfight. After the first period the score was tied 3-3. Then in the second period in a tactical error, 5 forwards were on the ice for 2 minutes. In those 2 minutes Raw Thrills put 3 goals past Pinkie. After that the defensemen were rested and Pinkie played well the rest of the game. CG peppered the Raw Thrills goalie with shots but could not get one passed. With four games left in the season CG will look to build a head of steam heading into the playoffs. This week Goose plays on Thursday night at 11:00 against the Beached Whalers and then Sunday at 5:20 against the Flyers.

Couldn't Ring the Bell.

Friday night a decent Goose line-up showed up to play against the Stags who had 6 players. There were also two ringers in CG's line-up. The game looked like it was won when CG came out and scored two goals early in the game. But that was not the case. Amid a flury of high sticks Goose came up short losing 6-3 with Pinkie in net. They look to salvage the season this saturday against Raw Thrills.

Nothing to Talk About

There was a rare sight this Saturday in the Canadian Goose locker room before they took the ice against the Boozehounds, there were 9 skaters. There would have been 10 skaters had I.B. Robbie not gotten caught in the madness that is the Taste of Chicago. I.B. Robbie was forced to take a detour and got hopelessly lost so he could not make the game. There was a familiar sight on the ice, these two teams hate each other. There were scuffles after almost every whistle. Goose could not get in the right rhythm in the game or hit the net. The game ended with a running clock due to curfew and the Boozehounds winning by 5-3.

Canadian Goose is in the bottom of the standings heading into the last portion of the season. They will need all there players for the remaining game to make the push for the Playoffs. No to mention many players are in danger of not being playoff eligible due to their poor attendance. CG will take the ice tomorrow at 10:30 against the Stags with Pinkie in net.

Five Again?

Canadian Goose took the ice Saturday with what is becoming the norm for this season; 6 players. Pinkie made his first appearance this season with the daunting task of keeping Lincoln Station from scoring as they had 10 skaters. Mickie also made his return after a month lay off.

As the other members for CG were out drinking the six players that showed up to the game put an amazing effort forth and had a 5-1 lead going into the third period in spite of some chippy play. The third period was not so forgiving for the beleaguered players and Lincoln Station tied the game with 2 minutes left. Goose fell into a tired defensive shell and decided to win the game in the shoot-out with Pinkie back-stopping them. Then with 1:30 left in the game CG had to kill a penalty for the rest of the game. Keeping the power play to the perimeter it looked like CG would be able to kill the penalty. Then a perfect cross pass which was redirected past Pinkie with 30 seconds left. The goal deflated the sails of CG who did not have the energy nor the man-power to pull the goalie for 6 attackers and make an attempt to tie the game.

After the second game in a row with 6 players the commitment problems the team is having are a major reason that the team is at the bottom of the league and are in danger of missing the playoffs after winning the Winter Championship. Trade deadline has come and gone and CG is in dire straits to find people to take the ice. We shall see how many players show up for the Saturday game at 1:50 against the Boozehounds.

Five is Enough

Canadian Goose came to the rink a little cloudy on an early Sunday game at noon. The door to the locker room was not used much because 5 skaters showed up. Old and in the Way did not give much respect to CG offering to give them players before the start of the game. Then 9 seconds in Cheese let in a goal from the top of the circle. That charity was quickly resinded as Goose prodeeded to score 3 straight goals in the first period. Midway through the game CG was coasting with a 6-2 lead. Then at the tail end of the peroid Old and in the Way began climbing back with 2 shorthanded goals during the same power play. This let down woke up the tired CG team. They had been down this road to many times this season in which few players show up to a game and they did not want to go into a shootout. In the third the score was tied at 8, then CG netted 2 more goals to skate away with a hard fought victory after Old and In the Way hit a ton of posts. Silent was the winner of the jacket, even though niether jacket nor people were the in the rink. Silent had a hand in every point that CG scored netting 8 goals with 2 assists setting a Candian Goose record for most points in a game. When asked to comment about the record setting performance Silent said that he was happy to carry the team to victory. IB Robbie played the entire game with a stick blade that was broken otherwise Silent might not have taken the goals and points lead way from him. Canadian Goose takes the ice this Saturday against the second place Lincoln Station at 11:10p.m. for another stellar ice slot in which 7 skaters will show up to.

Godfather Knows Best

Canadian Goose took the ice on Mother's Day against Raw Thrills. It took half of the game for the team to get thier bearings. Traffic was a factor as well as hung over players caused CG to be behind 0-3. Then the Godfather and Family arrived and took the game over. He called his own number every chance he could. Scoring two goals on Goose's way to tie the game. Joe F. drew a pentaly in the last 2 minutes of the game. The Godfather orchestrated a thrilling power play which was capped off by a Mitchell backhander into the top shelf. So with 1:18 left in the game the Goose were told to tighten up and hold the lead. Raw thrills pulled thier goalie and the Caravan Blinders were put on while Joey and the Godfather tried to hit the empty net allowing face-offs in the defensive zone, shaking off open teammates who could have easily tapped the puck into the empty net. Cheese held off the numerous shots that Raw Thrills had in the third period and Goose got 2 points with a 5-4 victory. The two points will help CG climb out of the cellar to defend the Championship
